What if I'm not an artist or creative?

That’s totally okay! This work isn’t about artistic skill, it’s about reconnecting with yourself. No experience is necessary. Let’s jump in and make something meaningful together.

I'm really anxious. How can you help?

That’s completely understandable. The world can be overwhelming, and it’s important that you feel safe. You’ll have the option to choose the setting that feels most comfortable, whether that's online, outdoors, or another agreed-upon space.

During the intake process, we’ll talk about what you might need to feel more at ease. That could include things like a video walk-through of the space, picking a specific location (if suitable), or other supports. Get in touch and we’ll work it out together.

Do I need to bring anything with me?

Just bring yourself and a willingness to participate! All materials are provided unless the session is online. That said, if you have something personal or meaningful you’d like to bring along, you’re more than welcome to.

How long are the sessions?

Session lengths can vary depending on your needs, but they typically run for 60 to 90 minutes. We’ll figure out what works best for you.

What ages do you work with?

Expressive Health is for everyone. Whether you're a child, teen, adult, or older adult, we’ll tailor the sessions to suit your age, needs, and interests.

Can I bring a support person with me?

Absolutely. If it helps you feel more comfortable, you’re welcome to bring a support person—just let me know ahead of time so we can plan for it.

Is the space accessible?

We're happy to work with you to find a setting that meets your accessibility needs. Some locations (like the home office) may have limitations, but we’ll do everything we can to create a space—online or in-person—that works for you. Just reach out and ask!

What kinds of things will we make?

That’s entirely up to you! We might work with paint, collage, clay, movement, writing, or even natural materials from outdoors. This process is about expression not perfection so you get to explore in whatever way feels right.

What if I get emotional during a session?

That’s completely okay. Emotions are welcome here. We create a gentle, supportive space where you can feel and express whatever comes up, without judgment.

What if I want to stop or take a break?

You’re in control of your process. If at any point you need to pause, stop, or change how we work together, that’s totally valid. We’ll work at your pace.

Should I stay in the session with my children?

While there may be situations where your presence is helpful, in most cases it’s best for children to attend sessions on their own. This gives them the chance to build trust and a sense of safety with their therapist, and it allows more freedom for self-expression, without the worry of being observed or needing to “perform” for a parent.

Should I ask my child(ren) about their session afterward?

It’s absolutely okay to ask, just keep it casual and pressure-free. Think of it like asking how their day at school was. Let them share what they want, when they feel ready. Trust that the space we’re creating together is one where their voice and timing are respected.

Can I get a summary of what happens in the sessions?

While I don’t provide detailed session summaries (to protect your child’s privacy and sense of ownership over the space), I’m always happy to check in with you about general themes or progress especially if something comes up that might benefit from support at home. If there’s anything urgent or important to communicate, you’ll absolutely be kept in the loop.

Will you tell me if something serious is going on?

Yes. If your child shares something that raises safety concerns or requires additional support, I’ll speak with you about it, always with care and transparency. The goal is to support your child together while still honoring their right to a private therapeutic space.

How can I support the creative work at home?

You don’t need to be an artist! Simply showing curiosity and openness is enough. You might offer space for art-making at home, ask gentle questions like “Did anything come up for you in art today?” or even make art side-by-side (if they’re open to it). Let them lead the way.

What if my child doesn’t want to go to therapy anymore?

That’s okay, it’s important to listen to their feelings. Sometimes resistance is part of the process, and sometimes it’s a sign they need a break or a different approach. Let’s talk about it together and see what’s behind the resistance. We’ll work with your child’s pace and needs.

What ages do you work with?

I work with children, teens, and adults. Each session is tailored to the age, stage, and personality of the person in the room (or on the screen!).
